Baby's first home made food

I know this is a simple task, but I am so proud of myself. I made my first batch of home made baby food. Devon was going pretty slowily through the store bought stuff at first, but he is now chowing through a couple of jars a day and I realized that this whole jars-of-ready-made-baby-food thing could get pricy. So I found a bag of peas in the freezer, steamed them, mashed them, added some water and voila .... baby peas. I will keep some fresh in the fridge for tomorrow, but the rest I will freeze. The tray is divided into 2 oz. compartments. You just freeze, pop them into a zip lock bag, thaw and eat. Now all I have to do is get him to eat them. I also did corn and I think that worked out even better as far as getting the right consistency goes. It was a really quick and easy process and I feel good knowing that I am giving baby D pure, fresh food. It is also a great way to easily expand his palate beyond what is available at the store by doing things like asparagus, avacados, and watermelon.

Yes ... that's a tie on his onesie.

You have the happiest baby ever! Your experience takes me back to when I made baby food with a similar baby food grinder. I still have that grinder and now use it to grind hard-cooked eggs every time I make potatoe salad. Remember? I don't enjoy the big chunks of egg, so the grinder is perfect for the task.

Hey that's great that you are making him homeade baby food. I have made all my baby's homeade baby food's...and just so you know, I have heard that when you boil carrots, all the nutriets the baby needs are cooked out of them- and so I usually buy baby carrots because they put the nutrients back in them. (you might have already known that, but I didn't when I started making baby food). :) Good luck with it! I think it is fun and rewarding and a LOT less expensive! And you're totally right, you can give them food they could not otherwise get. I never even thought of avacado or watermelon. Great ideas.

I made my kids' baby food as well. It's easy and cheap. Be sure to try sweet potatoes too. What a fun mom you are!
